The Portuguese established their settlement in Goa in 1510. Subsequently they captured Diu,Daman,Bassein,Mumbai,and some other part of western cost of India.At times only Goa,Daman,Diu remained under Portuguese possession till 1961.
Following mints were working for Portuguese India coins.
Goa mint ( 1510-to1869) issued variety of coins in tin,copper silver, and gold metal.
Bassein mint (1611 to 1739) issued copper Buzoruccos.
Daman mint (1611 to 1739) issued copper 3, 5, 30,and 60 reis .
Chaul mint (1644 to 1740) issued copper Buzoruccos.
Diu mint (1684 to 1859) silver xerafins and some copper coins.
After closure of Goa mint Mumbai (Bombay) mint of British ruler was minting coins for Portuguese territory in copper and silver 
In 1775 the word Rupia was adopted for the coins of two xerafin and these onwards the value of coins was reckoned in terms of rupees.In1958 the currancy was replaced by the escudo and centao.
Names of some coins are Cruzado or Manoel,,Espera, Sao vicantos 20, 10, 5, 2, Sao thome navo, It's double,single and half ,St. Thome, all in gold. Tang ,Xerafin Rupia ,espera, meia espera in silver.,.Reis,tang centao in copper, Escude, 60 centao in copper nickle. Some small coins in copper-Tang 60 reis, meia tang 30 reis ,vintem 20 reis,  rubo 15 reis, vis duddu12 reis. pondra duddu 9 rei , dha duddu 6 reis, pach duddu 3  reis.
